Stand Dynamics and Silviculture

We study stand dynamics and how they can be influenced by man. We thereby focus on the following topics:

• Growth and yield research

• Forest dynamics in forest reserves

• Virgin forest research in the Ukraine

• Adaptation of forest trees to climate change

• Close-to-nature silvicultural strategies

• Forest succession and young forest tending

• Forest-ungulate interactions and browsing

We maintain and manage a net of long-term permanent plots and use the data in simulation models of forest dynamics. Our research contributes to an ecologically, economically and socially sustainable forest management.
