Institute of Biogeochemistry and Pollutant Dynamics (IBP)

The Institute of Biogeochemistry and Pollutant Dynamics (IBP) is one of six institutes within the Department of Environmental Systems Science at ETH Zurich.

IBP's mission is to conduct forefront research and teaching in biogeochemistry, an interdisciplinary science aiming to understand the fate, impact, and cycling of essential and potentially toxic elements and chemical compounds in the terrestrial and aquatic environment.

IBP encompasses eight professorships (Chairs) and nine associated research groups, several of which are located at the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag). IBP also has active links to other federal research institutions such as WSL, Empa, and PSI. With approximately 100 PhD students and 20-30 postdocs, IBP offers a highly attractive and stimulating environment for the training of young researchers in the biogeochemical sciences.

The faculty of IBP is responsible for the study program "Biogeochemistry and Pollutant Dynamics" offered as majors within the BSc and MSc programs in Environmental Sciences.
